The Acer 1355LC is a very nice Laptop for just over £800, took a little while to set-up when delivered, but not difficult. An AMD 2600M processor, 256mg DDR ram, 30gig hard drive, CD-RW-DVD Combo, good graphics and a stylish design. A very good manual and set-up guide, well worth the money and a very good company that make quality products.
Acer Travelmate 8000LMi bought and received a day late from Technoworld but they refunded shipping costs. However Acer customer service is non existent, they do not answer emails and do not answer the telephone. They keep you on hold for ages at 10p per minute which they make a profit from, then don't even answer the call, even after 1 hour which cost me £6 which is a total rip off. If I were you I would not buy any Acer product no matter how good it is, the back up and support is just not there.
Had this Advent 6520 laptop for two years had one problem in all that time which was rectified asap under warranty. This was to do with the back light for the screen when it goes down it goes down you cant see a thing on screen. One other issue that has caused me a small problem is that of the Smart Link Modem it wont let you install AOL 8 due to the driver on this modem it crashes the computer big time blue screen & all.
First, there's the hardware of the Apple iBook G4. Apple hardware isn't just beautiful (though this infuriates Windoze users with their nasty black / beige boxes), it is incredibly well made. Pick up any Apple laptop and compare it to any pc laptop and you will see what I mean. Look at the ipod, the G5, the new imac, the isight, airport express units, the flat screens. No comparison.
Asus T9000 Series Laptop. I find this babe cool 'specially the docking MP3 DJ Box that comes with it. Professional, sleek, well stylish design. i really like the magnesium-aluminum alloy that houses the whole system. System upgrade is also a big point. Last and most of all... it's very durable and heavy duty for it really has a heat dissipation technology that really reduces system heat... almost complete... LAN, USB, Fireport, Infrared, PS2 ports and of course, bluetooth technology equipped!
I won't bother with all the technical blah blah as that speaks for itself. Check out www.Benq.com for more info. I went for the 2.4GHz BenQ Joybook 8000 which is the top of their current range. I paid £1144 including VAT (contact admin@procom-gb.com) incredible price considering that at the beginnning of September 2003 the 2.0GHz was still retailing at £1699! You won't find a better and more stylish machine for the money. It really does come close to the Mac Powerbooks in everyway but price (& sound!)
I am thankful that I purchased a 3 year warranty for the Dell Inspiron 2650. I am also thankful that I have lots of extra time to spend on the phone with Dell tech people, and that I have the ability to follow their rather technical installation and repair instructions. I have had the LCD replaced twice, a complete overhaul once, and just replaced the optic scanner. Dell representatives advised that they, too, would be upset with such poor performance. They are certain, however, that if I purchase a new Dell (at full price, of course) I will be perfectly happy. Bad product, bad customer service.
The Compaq presario 2100 has sturdy construction, is feature packed and exceptional good value bought from PC world. Extended warranty option taken just in case as I have my dektop on pc worlds ext warranty and have made a few claims no probs. Worth a flutter.
This Compaq Armada M700 is a super thin laptop with less weight (~5.5Kg) I guess and excellent performance. The only problem was it used to heat up pretty much and i get worried seeing that the cooling fan doesn't rotate. But anyway it didn't blow up. Glad about that :-)
